Karate

A couple weeks ago, Dave asked Landon if he might be interested in taking Karate. I'm not exactly sure where that came from, but Landon immediately said yes! Usually if we ask him if he wants to try soccer, b-ball or anything like that, he just politely answers "no thank you!" So when he said yes, I called the karate place in Westfield to find out how he could start! Dave has had a few students go through that facility and the location is pretty great. Bonus - they were running a super special, so it was a perfect time to start.

Here are a few pictures of Landon in his karate uniform - of course at his sessions they do not wear socks and shoes!

Landon and Dave were both laughing at this picture - I was trying to get the back (obviously) - ha ha!

Showing me some of his moves....like how to hold his hands by his cheeks so always ready and punching!

I took him for the first time last Thursday - here he is on the right waiting to start class. It was a full class that night and I didn't have a clear shot of him for pictures, so no in class pictures yet!

On Thursday, he got to break a board - yes, you read that right! His 3rd class and he got to break a board! It's amazing how they can make them just right for beginners! (wink) He was so proud!! When we got home, he (of course) had to re-create it with Dave holding the board together so he could "break" it again!

First, you tap it twice where you are going to hit it so your aim is just right. You have to tell your mind where your hand is going to go.

Bam - that's how it's done!

This is what the board looked like in class before...

And after Landon was done with it! They all thought it was cool to keep the board!

After I took the above pictures he just had to do it again! Look at that face!

So far, so good! I think an individual sport like karate will be good for Landon for a number of reasons. I think it will help him get ready for team sports down the road and build his confidence. It will also help his balance and coordination, which is something he could use!

Way to go Landon - I can't wait to see how this progresses!!!

Blessing Day

On Sunday, November 13, we headed to the south side for our nieces blessing day. Alice and Grace received their Bibles at their church. Not the best picture - I was far away - but you can see the whole Coburn family right in the middle. I think the kids liked going up to the front, too!

Grace and Alice kept Deb and Chris busy during most of the service - silly girls - so they were exhausted when they got home!

Allison challenged the big kids to a game of Dominoes - I think they all had a good time!

Later in the week I headed back to Deb's for a visit with the girls without the distraction of my boys! It was nice to visit for a while and just see what the girls are doing these days! They are really smiling more and starting to "talk" more - so cute!!

Here is Miss Alice - big smiles!

And Miss Grace! A little more serious - but she had been smiling. Of course she stopped as soon as I put the camera in front of her! Cute!

We are SO cool!

Last week, one of Dave's co-workers was selling some of her daughters old things and he came home all excited about what he had bought for the boys! Can you tell what it is?

Yes, if you guessed Game boy Advance SP! We are SO cool in this house!!! We have an original Game boy and now the Advance - woo hoo! We are really jumping ahead in this world - ha ha! Lucky for us - even though Landon knows what a DS system is, he's just happy to have anything to play with! We still need a few more little boy friendly games, but we have two that they like!

It was so cute to watch the boys watch as Dave showed them what it could do! Love Landon's hand on his shoulder!

I only got this picture of Aiden checking it out, but that evening they all got a chance to play!

Star of the Week - Austin

This week has been Austin's special week - he's been the Star of the Week! Just like Aiden, he was so excited for his special time. I was able to see him going through the things he had put in his box when I picked them up one day, which was cute to see how excited his face looked to show his friends some of his very own toys!

When we did Aiden's box, we got started on Austin's box as well because he was just so excited!

Then last weekend I finished the page for the top of his box and he got to decorate that! Look at that smile!

He works so hard on his "projects!" He actually got very frustrated because when he was trying to draw a circle around the whole page, he accidentally wrote over some words. He was just so heartbroken! I was able to convince him it was perfect just the way he did it, but it's tough to sell to him! We'll see how it goes when he's in school!

Monday morning - he's all ready to go! Our Star of the Week!

Showing me the stuff he put in the box...I love seeing his little hands!

Today he is so excited - and so is Aiden - because Grandma Day is coming in for his special guest at lunch time! I know they are all looking forward to another special visitor!!!

And here are his answers to some of my questions:

Favorite Color - Yellow

Favorite Food - Pizza

Favorite Ice Cream - Strawberry

Favorite Fruit - Apples

Favorite Stuffed Animal - Big Bear

Favorite Activity - Coloring at school

Favorite thing to drive - My Gator

Special memories!

Lunch with Grandma and Grandpa

Today my parents visited the twins at school for Aiden's Star of the week! I am not sure who he more fun...the boys or grandma and grandpa!!! Here are some pictures my mom took!! Thanks for making the twins day!!

Note - I'm not sure why these pictures are so big!! This was my first try at using my iPhone to put a post up on the blog. Guess I'll have to keep trying! :-)

Star of the week - Aiden

The daycare where the boys go to school has always done a "Star of the Week." I can't remember if I've posted about them before, but they are fun for the kids. Landon always enjoyed them - and each year it was something a little different for the kids. Sometimes it's been a poster board about them, a book, pictures, a box of favorite things.

This week Aiden is Star of the Week! We printed a bunch of pictures for him to take in and hang up, showing things he likes to play, his family, his brothers, things like that. And then he got to decorate a shoe box with stickers and markers, and put some of his toys inside.

Here he is on Sunday, all excited to decorate his box! Love his little smile!

This was the "mom, if I smile will you PLEASE stop taking my picture so I can decorate my box" look! Ha ha! He was all set up - stickers, check! Markers, check!

Finished product - good job, Aiden!

Some of the things he decided to put inside. Dave and I were laughing because of some of the "stuff" he wanted to put in there. It's hard to explain to a 3 year old that it's not about any random toy...but he was excited to just pick stuff to show his friends!

Big cheesy smile for me on Monday morning - my Star of the Week was ready to go!

He's so excited because tomorrow (Friday, 11/11), Grandma and Grandpa Easterday are coming to have lunch with him (and of course, Austin, too!). When I asked him who he wanted as his visitor, he said "Grandma with the rabbit and Grandpa, too!" So cute! Grandma will not be bringing the rabbit, but she will have a picture all ready to go! He's so excited!

When I was doing his pictures, I decided to ask him a few of his "favorite things" to include with the pictures. Here are his answers:

Favorite Color - Silver

Favorite Food - Carrots

Favorite Ice Cream - Strawberry

Favorite Fruit - Strawberries

Favorite Stuffed Animal - Duckie

Favorite Activity - Sing songs in my bed

Favorite Game - Lego Train on the computer

A few of them surprised me but it's always cute to hear what they will say when asked a direct question! So proud of my little Star of the Week!

Next week - Austin's turn to be Star of the Week!

Happy Halloween

Finally - the boys were so excited - Halloween was here! Of course, I had to get a picture of them before school!

They all had a great day at school and then we headed south! It was a big evening on a school night, but worth the trip to go trick or treat with cousins! We headed to Aunt Allison and Uncle Ryan's house for dinner and to meet everyone. Uncle Ryan got started playing with the boys as soon as they walked in - the LOVE it!!!

Getting Austin!

After we convinced them to eat something and the rest of the gang arrived, it was time for pictures - ha ha! Here are my little trick-or-treaters - Austin - aka Thomas, Landon - aka Ironhide and Aiden - aka James.

My two little trains! I cannot believe they are getting this big!

So cute - Makayla, Grant, Alice and Grace!

Between all of us we probably have at least 50 versions of this picture - ha!! All the cousins! Quite a gang!

And we're off! One of their neighbors always does their house up right!

Aiden wasn't so sure, but Justin was great and took him up there by the hand. Thanks J! :)

Trick or Treat! Aiden did a great job of saying Trick or Treat and then thank you. He was very focused!

Check out Justin's costume - that's one cool dude! :)

My little Transformer!

There goes the group - wow!!!

Brad, Austin and Aiden wanted to stop just a touch early - so we trick or treated to Evan back at the house!

Aiden loving some candy!

Austin loving it, too!

Landon was excited to sort his candy!

Nate was focused on sorting the candy!

All sorted - quite a selection!

Ryan trying to get some candy!

And I spent a little time talking to Alice! So cute!

When we got home, Dave asked if anyone wanted to walk around the house in the dark. The twins had gotten in trouble in the car so were faced with no candy at home that night, so when he told them they could have candy, they were both all about it! Landon didn't want anything to do with it. I don't have any pictures - it was dark - but it was so cute to watch them go around one side of the house with their little flashlights, just talking and walking....and then as I was watching for them, all I could see were two little lights moving as fast as they could coming around the deck! They were running as fast as they could! Big smiles on their faces, but still running! Aiden's comment - "that was spooky!"

And they got their candy! :)

Such brave little boys!

It was a great day!
