State Fair

We took the boys to the State Fair on Tuesday, August 9th. We watched the following weekend as the tragedy hit the fair and couldn't believe it. We've been thinking of those families so much since then. Heartbreaking.

This was the twins first trip to the State Fair, and only Landon's second. The last time we took him he was in a stroller and doesn't really remember! So it was fun to experience it with them for the "first" time!

Getting a good breakfast...lots of fruit...since we knew we'd be enjoying fair food! :-)

Checking out the tractors! There were so many!

They each picked a favorite!

Then it was time for the Little Hands farm. This is a great area of the fair for the little kids, and Landon was excited to show his brothers since he had visited this part in the spring for a field trip. They had much more stuff now than in the spring, so it was fun for all 3 of them!

First, you need an apron!

Stay on the path and follow the chicken scratches.

You need some corn and soybeans to feed the animals!

And an egg!

Landon chose to feed the "cows". (Note - these were about the only animals the boys were interested in - the pretend ones!)

Aiden loved the "pig".

Austin feeding the "pig".

Next up - planting. First you pick a "seed". Landon's was a pepper and Austin and Aiden picked a potato.

Then it's time to plant the "seed".

Finally, you pick the vegetable you planted! All pretend, of course!

Time to pick an apple!

And ride a tractor! Landon could have but was technically too big, so he just watched. Austin was off - he saw those tractors, ran to a green one and was off around the circle. He was gone before I even had Aiden situated - this boy can pedal a tractor!! Good job, Austin!

Aiden picked a blue one and did pretty good, but his shoes were wet from dew and the seat was just a touch too far back, so pedaling was a challenge. He kept at it, though, with a few pushes from me! Way to go, Aiden!

Let's milk a cow! They all thought this was fun...and remind us every time that "it was just water!"

We found a gigantic sprayer! Cool!

Austin and Aiden were waiting while Landon and Dad worked on a project.

There was a place where you could make a metal toolbox. Landon did a great job and it was a fun thing he and Dave got to go off and do together without the little boys. Good job, Landon!

The boys really wanted to ride the tractor shuttles, but we weren't sure how the little boys would do. By the time Landon was done, it was close to lunch time and we hadn't even left this section. So we decided to give it a try and the boys LOVED it and did great! I think Austin would have gone on it all day if he could have! And we didn't take a stroller, so it really gave the boys a rest!

Then we had to eat!!! Landon and Aiden enjoyed corn dogs, Austin a hot dog and we all shared two huge lemon shake-ups! YUM! And yes, you are seeing that right in the picture - Dave enjoyed a Krispy Kreme Bacon Cheeseburger. Yikes!! (I just had some cheese fries...I was saving room for an elephant ear - my fav!!!)

After looking at the rabbits and walking some more - it was time for a treat! The boys enjoyed some snow cones, which melted so fast they were more like a slushy, then fruit juice - but they loved them!

Picture time with Mom!

Landon and Aiden were brave and pet a snake!

Finally - an elephant ear! All 3 boys tried it and loved it! Here's Aiden taking a bite!

And I enjoyed it, too!! Not my best picture, but this is what I love at the fair, so Dave said he had to take my picture! LOL Thanks honey.

It was a really fun day - and it was nice to be out and about with no diapers to worry about changing! The little boys went every time we asked and we had no accidents!

It was a great family day!

Looks like a fun day! If Landon liked making that toolbox, Dave and Landon should sign up for the Lowe's Build and Grows. They get to use hammers and nails to do those and get a badge for each project!
